I get anxiety and panic attacks sometimes; If you’ve ever had one, you know how horrible and debilitating they can be. My anxiety got so bad that I wasn’t able to sleep at night, I would wake up every 2-3 hours with my heart beating out of my chest. I really love to sleep so not being able to get a good night’s sleep is torture for me.
I tried to get anxiety medication, I managed to drive myself to urgent care one night during one of my panic attacks. The nurse at the front desk told me “don’t waste your money, there is no way the doctor will prescribe anything for anxiety.” So I left, I had no idea what to do to get better. (If you’re wondering, I did go to therapy, which definitely helped!, but that’s another story.)
I was at my wits’ end, and remembered that I had always been curious about acupuncture so I did some research and found that it can totally help with anxiety! Lucky for me, there is an acupuncture place in the same complex as where I work! I went in and asked for the appointment and was greeted by the cutest little older Korean man who spoke almost no English, and to be honest, that made me trust him more!😂
Funny fact: when I went in I told him “I have anxiety” and he said “diarrhea?”😂 so if you need, I’m assuming acupuncture can help with that as well! 😂
Anyway, once the process started, he put me in a room, had me lay down and put some needles in both my wrists and ankles; and he also put two needles in my chest. He explained to me that where he was sticking the needles effected my heart and kidneys and also dealt with anger. He told me to relax and just lay there and try to sleep. At one point, once I actually started to relax, I felt like my body was floating. It was the most relaxed I had felt in a while! Once he came back to remove the needles, he told me to go home and relax, I heeded his advice, got home and I fell asleep and slept through the entire night!!
So if you’re thinking about trying acupuncture, I totally recommend you try it, (I’ve done it twice already!) It only hurts a tiny tiny bit when the needles break the skin (obvi) but it’s no big deal! 🙂
